About dictionary
In jujutsu, as in other martial arts, Japanese terminology is often used. It is not only a tribute to traditions, but also a way how to give information more properly. How often Japanese is used, depends from a particular club or instructor. Here You can find most common words.
General

| Do | Way, path. |
| Judo | The "gentle way". |
| Ai | Harmony. |
| Ki | Life energy. |
| Aikido | The "way of Harmony". |
| Karate | "Empty hand". |
| Budo | Way of the warrior, martial arts. |
| Dan | Black belt rank from 1-st to 10-th, the highest. |
| Kyu | Students rank, until black belt. Ranking goes from highest number to lowest, 1-st kyu. |
| Satori | Enlightenment. |
Training process
| Sensei | Teacher. |
| Dojo | "Place of the Way". Training place. |
| Tatami | Mats - traditional type of Japanese flooring. Also training mats to soften fallings. |
| Gi or Dogi | Trainign unifrom, often misnamed as kimono. |
| Kimono | The national costume of Japan. |
| Hakama | Wide and long skirt-like pants - type of traditional Japanese clothing, originally worn by samurai.In martial arts isis weared by students from certain kyu or dan levels. |
| Randori | Free-style practice or sparring. |
| Tori | The one who execute a technique (defends). |
| Uke | The one who attacks. |
| Ukemi | Break falls. |
| Tach-waza | Techniques performed while standing. |
| Ne-waza | Techniques performed on the ground. |
